Learn to Homelab was founded by Abe Peterson in 2024 with a simple goal — to make technical learning approachable and enjoyable for everyone. What began as a YouTube channel quickly grew into a thriving community where creators and tech enthusiasts explore homelabs, networking, and self-hosted solutions together.
From his home office in Salt Lake City, Abe shared his passion for open-source systems, breaking down complex setups like Proxmox, Docker, and OPNsense into realistic projects anyone could tackle. As Learn to Homelab expanded, it became more than just tutorials — it evolved into a movement centered around learning by doing and empowering users to control their own digital infrastructure.
Rivviet, pronounced (Riv-ee-it), was started in April of 2026 by a group of individuals with the goal of creating software and development tools for fellow software developers and homelab users who care deeply about open-source transparency.
Rivviet is owned and operated by the subsidiary Learn To Homelab, a company founded in 2024 by Abe Peterson. Abe created Learn To Homelab to bring free, thorough, and hands-on information technology training to the masses. His work emphasizes restoring security and privacy to individuals, keeping control in their hands and out of centralized cloud environments.
That passion for education and empowerment continues through Rivviet today — a project dedicated to building and contributing to open-source software, cybersecurity, and self-hostable solutions. Learn to Homelab and Rivviet now work hand-in-hand to teach, build, and share technology that enables creators, sysadmins, and developers to take charge of their digital world.
